Tea Time

Tea is a huge part of the culture in Jordan. At every meal or every time we were over at someone’s house we were served tea (and in all honesty, it’s some of the best tea I’ve ever had). We had been welcomed into so many houses and served so much tea that we decided to have all of our friends over for tea at our house. We invited all of our gal pals over and had tea and cookies and snacks. Every single one of the women who came was Muslim, yet we played worship music and even did an activity where we had everyone draw a picture of how they view God or the ways that they view their relationship with Him.

Every woman there participated. We got to hear all sorts of ways they view God or how they feel close to God. Now obviously Christianity and Islam are not the same and are so different in some major core beliefs. But the way that they described their view of God was so beautiful. They often do feel close to Him in their own times of worship. And even as we shared our views of God and our relationship with Him, though it was different than their views, they had such a high respect and you could tell that what we shared touched them deeply.

As they shared and I listened, my heart just began to break. They were so close yet so far from the truth of who God is and what He has done for us. As I listened to each woman share, I prayed for each of them. That the Lord would reveal Himself to them as His true self. That they would get to experience the freedom in Jesus. That is still my prayer. The more I interact with those of the Muslim faith, that they would view God in a way that is to be revered as they do, but also in a way that they realized they are loved unconditionally. That He invites them into an intimate relationship with Him that is daily and can be accessed anywhere at any point.

I am thankful for all of the tea times in Jordan that led to a really sweet tea time at our house so we could talk more about God with our friends. Please pray for our friends and that Jesus would meet them in a way that just captivates them and brings them to Him.
